Obesity

Obesity

Obesity is a chronic medical condition marked by an abnormal or excessive accumulation of body fat, leading to negative impacts on health. It is typically assessed through body mass index (BMI) calculations, with a BMI of 30 or higher indicating obesity. Contributing factors include genetics, lifestyle choices, and environmental influences. Obesity increases the risk of various serious health issues, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, certain cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders. Management and prevention strategies involve a combination of dietary modifications, increased physical activity, behavioral changes, and sometimes medical interventions or surgery to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
