Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes results from the immune system attacking insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, leading to insulin deficiency. Type 2 diabetes typically develops due to insulin resistance, where cells fail to respond effectively to insulin, or inadequate insulin production. Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy when hormonal changes impair insulin function. Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and blurred vision. Long-term complications may include cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney failure, and vision loss. Management involves lifestyle changes, medication, insulin therapy, and monitoring blood sugar levels to prevent complications.
